About Michael

I work with employees who are dealing with difficult or uncertain situations at work or who have lost their jobs.

My focus is on listening carefully, explaining options clearly, and helping people make informed decisions — without pressure.

How I work

I bring strong knowledge of employment law to every matter and apply it carefully to the specific facts of your situation. My focus is on clear, rational advice — not noise or pressure.

I explain legal issues in plain language so you can understand what matters and why. I’ll make sure you are aware of the realistic paths forward, the likely process, and the potential risks. The decisions are always yours.

Once you decide how you want to proceed, I carry out my role carefully and with precision.

Experience and background

Most of my work involves helping employees resolve employment issues through early advice, clear communication, and negotiation. I also have substantial experience in formal and informal mediation, and I’m comfortable supporting clients through the process when matters escalate.

I handle dozens of matters each year. Around 20% proceed to mediation, and around 4% go on to the Employment Relations Authority.

I have formal legal training and a long-standing interest in employment law. I’m not a lawyer, and I’m transparent about that — my role is to provide practical, well-grounded support and representation as an employment advocate.

I’ll be candid with you about whether a matter appears strong, weak, or unlikely to be worth pursuing, so you can make informed decisions from the outset.

Who I work with

The people I help are:

  1. Employees (not employers)

  2. People who want clarity before acting

  3. People who value calm, honest advice

  4. People who may not know yet whether they have a “case”

What to expect from our first conversation

The first conversation is mainly about understanding what has happened and what you want to achieve. I’ll ask questions to gather the key facts — the what, when, who, and how — and to understand what is most important to you right now.

We’ll also talk about what a realistic next step might look like. There’s no pressure to decide anything on the call.

Afterwards, I usually follow up by email. Depending on the situation, I may ask for a little more information or documentation, or I may set out my initial view of the situation and the practical options available. The aim is always to leave you feeling clearer and more in control.

If you’d like to talk things through, book a free, confidential discussion.
